Aloha and welcome to the 2012–2013 school year. The school year will be filled with many exciting challenges as we begin to move towards implementing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Race to the Top initiatives. Currently, Kindergarten through grade two are in full implementation of the CCSS and grades three through six will be using a combination of Hawaii Content Performance Standards and the CCSS until the next school year.
Pearl Ridge Elementary School’s theme this year is once again “An Attitude of Gratitude.” Since 2007, this theme has been a powerful reminder that helps the school see and appreciate all of our accomplishments. We choose to look at things and people positively because positive thoughts lead to positive feelings and positive feelings lead to positive actions. With everyone working together having a positive and grateful attitude, there are no limits to what we can achieve together for our children.
I would like to leave you with a quote by Marelisa Fabrega and ask that you join us in supporting Pearl Ridge Elementary School as a place where students, teachers, staff, and parents have “An Attitude of Gratitude.”
“Gratitude should not be just a reaction to getting what you want, but an all-the-time gratitude, the kind where you notice the little things and where you constantly look for the good, even in unpleasant situations. Start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience in order to feel grateful.” Marelisa Fabrega
