PRE 25 LIVE, Pearl Ridge’s morning news station, will be shown live every morning on the school’s closed circuit TV system. As a newscaster, you will be giving important information and announcements to PRE’s faculty and students.

Qualifications and Requirement:
Newscaster Auditions:
- 5th and 6th Graders.
- Reads well (Pronounces words clearly and can be animated)
- Able to come by 7:20 a.m. when scheduled (very important)
- Comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
- Fun personality and positive attitude
- Respects others
- Follows school rules and expectations (You will be considered a role model)
- Keeps up with school work and responsibilities.
- Any newscaster that cannot fulfill their responsibilities, at any time, will be replaced by another applicant.
Newscaster Auditions:
- Auditions are held when for 4th and 5th grade at the end of the school year. However, there are exceptions for current 5th and 6th graders to audition if needed.
- Individuals audition in the media room in front of the advisor and selected student judges.
- A few audition announcement slides will be shown on a teleprompter computer screen.
- You will read the announcements as if you were a newscaster.
- Scores will be given according the audition criteria score sheet.
- Reads Smoothly: Sentences flow and are not choppy. Pauses, stops and starts in the right places.
- Loudness & Clarity: Voice is easily heard and understood.
- Voice: Changes in voice quality. Not monotone. Voice animation and brings meaning and life to lines. Speaking seems natural and not rehearsed.
- Personality: Gestures and facial expressions enhance lines. Connect with audience.
- Stage Presence: Appears comfortable and confident in the spotlight and camera.
- After all applicants have auditioned, there will be “Call Backs” for selected students on another day to have a second audition.
- Then a selection will be made for 6 applicants to be newscasters.
