Counseling
What is school counseling?
School counseling promotes learning through three areas of student development:
- Academic Development
- Personal/Social Development
- Career Development
Individual and Group Counseling
Counselors meet weekly with students in group and individual sessions to provide students with guidance on issues impeding learning or emotional/social development, such as:
- Anger Management
- Bereavement Divorce
- Peer Relationships
- Social Skills
- Study Skills
- Consultation and Coordination
Student Mediation Program
Volunteer students are trained in a 4-step mediation process that enable them to help others find positive ways to solve disagreements during recess. Through this program, students find ways they can solve their own problems before they escalate into more serious difficulties.
Classroom Guidance
Counselors implement classroom guidance lessons, as requested by teachers, concerning a variety of topics. Problem-solving, stress management, peer relationships, anti-bullying, conflict-resolution skills, and transitioning to intermediate school are examples of guidance lessons taught.
